Who am I?

I’m a student living in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.  I grew up on the island and have a weakness for future planning and daydreaming.  I love setting goals and learning and improving … who doesn’t love self-improvement?!  Which is what led me to the idea for this blog.

Why did I start this blog?

Because I had to for school.

I’m completing my BA in Professional Communication and we are now meant to develop our “online niche and voice.”  So here we are.

Try thirty days of what?

Some folks out there say it takes 30 days to form a new habit or break an old one.  Some say 21 days of repetitive behaviour is all it takes, while others see 100 days as ideal for mastering a skill.  Most likely it just depends on the person and the task at hand.

I completed a 30 day Bikram challenge last year (one Bikram Yoga class in the 105 degree room every day for 30 days) and it was nothing short of life-changing.  I felt so good that I couldn’t stop.  I became super fit, happier, energized, and my skin was softer than my one-year-old nephew Aiden’s.  I went for 45 days in a row (and then Christmas came and cookies and turkey took up most of my time).  But, after completing the challenge, I incorporated Bikram Yoga into my life and it’s still part of my regular routine.

So in short, I’m going to use the Bikram’s every-day-for-thirty-days model and challenge myself with something new every month.  If I could form one habit, or incorporate something worthwhile into my life every month, that’s twelve new additions a year!  Not too shabby.

But first let’s be clear before I start this thing.  I’m not going to do anything too crazy (most likely).  I plan to choose challenges that I’d like to incorporate into my lifestyle and improve myself in some form or another.  In other words I won’t be doing any eat-only-McDonalds-everyday-a-la-Supersize-Me-type-challenges.

Why should you care?

You don’t have to care really, either you’ll read this thing or you won’t!  No hard feelings, dear reader.  I plan to get fully immersed in whatever challenge I put myself up for, so as I learn about whatever it is I’m doing I’ll blog about it here and hopefully pass on some valuable information for those interested.  I’ll try to update as much as possible and (maybe, just maybe) inspire someone to start their own 30 day challenge, in whatever form that might be.
